State and Local Government

The State and Local Government Policy Area can be divided roughly into the following three subtopics:

  • Ethics and elections, concerning state and local campaign finance; lobbying; gifting; and political subdivision, including voter registration and identification required to vote;
  • Local Government, concerning counties, cities, townships, hospital districts, rural water districts, library districts, numerous other political subdivisions, and school districts, to some extent; and
  • General state government, concerning transparency, such as the Kansas Open Meetings Act and the Kansas Open Records Act, state employees, and legislative and executive branch functions.
