House and Senate Redistricting Committees 2021

The House Committee on Redistricting and the Senate Committee on Redistricting will jointly hold a listening tour consisting of 14 town hall meetings across the state during the week of August 9, 2021, to receive public comments concerning the redistricting process, which takes place every decade in accordance with the U.S. Census.

Directions for Conferees:

It is the intent of the joint House and Senate Committees on Redistricting to provide opportunities for public testimony on the redistricting process at 14 town hall meetings held across the state of Kansas.

Testimony

Testimony may be provided in written form, orally, or both. Any conferee wishing to testify orally is encouraged to also provide advance written testimony, because of potential time constraints. Written testimony is to be provided in .pdf format, by the deadlines listed below by contacting KLRD staff through the email address listed below. These deadlines provide staff with sufficient time to compile, organize, and disseminate testimony. Submission emails must include your name, your affiliation (if any), your contact information, and the date and location of the meeting at which your testimony is to be presented.

A sign-up sheet will be available the day of the meeting for persons who do not register by the deadline.

Written testimony. All written testimony must include your name, your affiliation (if any), your contact information, and the date and location of the meeting at which the testimony is to be presented, at the top of the first page. Add an identifier to subsequent pages. Email a .pdf copy of your written testimony to KLRD staff by the deadline listed below for the meeting at which you will testify.

Oral testimony. The Co-chairpersons will determine how much meeting time is available for oral testimony at each meeting. Time for each person testifying may be limited by the Co-chairpersons at their discretion. Conferee testimony from the day-of sign-up sheet is contingent upon the availability of time remaining after earlier registered conferees and the discretion of the chair. Notify staff as soon as possible and no later than the deadline below for asking to be included in the agenda and noting if you wish to provide any multi-media presentation. Internet access may not be available, depending on the venue.

Please remember that information provided to or discussed by the committees becomes a public record and will be published on the Legislature's website under the House and Senate Redistricting Committee's Minutes tab. Testimony will be made available in electronic format via the KLRD website the morning of the meeting at which the testimony is to be presented.

Written Testimony:

The deadlines for submission of testimony prior to the date of the redistricting listening tour meetings have been waived by both the House and Senate Redistricting Committees. This will allow written testimony to be accepted any time prior to the beginning of the 2022 session. Submission of testimony must include your name, your affiliated organization (if any), your contact information, and the date submitted. Testimony may be provided in .pdf format to the email address, or mailed to the office address, listed below. Please remember that information provided to the committees becomes a public record and will be published on the Legislature's website under the House and Senate Redistricting Committee's Minutes tab. You will be able to find the new testimony not included in previous meetings at the following links:
